Development Update #12

Suburbs

Hi friends!
It is time for some cool pictures and mediocre jokes, the weekly update is here!

Tobi is excused this week, because he is helping his wife Bao with animating a film, so I was left with Stamm. Doing video calls with Stamm is an experience to cherish. Bonus content later.

Our featured image shows The Suburbs, the first stage of On Rusty Trails, as we embark on a journey through all (known) stages of the game on this week’s blog. The reason for this is another undercover project we have been working on, which used up much of our time this week and involved making polished screenshots of every stage. I guess, someone wanted us to show them an overview of the game…who might it be? I have to keep you in suspense for a little longer, sorry.

The Suburbs, are Elvis’ home and the starting point of the game. From here he sets out to find a new habitat. Rents are cheaper in The Suburbs, compared to Spike City, which is the reason he lives there.

The Gates

The Gates

On his way into the city, Elvis passes The Gates, which are the immediate outskirts of Spike City and heavily fortified to keep out intruders. Also still the best lamp lace in the game. On the left you can see one of our moving platforms docking to the next platform.

Spike City

Spike City

Next up is Spike City, the social and economical hub of the Spike community, where a naive Elvis thinks to have reached his journey’s destination of claiming compensation for is home. After all,the warranty had not expired yet! Notice that some corrosion has already set in and the presumably safe city is falling victim to the weather as well.

Mixed

Mixed

This is the Mixed Land (working title), which is still a part of Spike City, but has always had Hairies as citizens, living next to Spikes. They are a minority, but so far they have been peacefully coexisting in this part of the city. On the left, a group of Spikes is inspecting the situation, discussing the goings on with the dangerous-looking oozing platform on the right side.

The Tunnel

The Tunnel

The Tunnel is a transitional area between the Mixed Land and The Factory. The way to The Factory is closed for the public for some reason, so Elvis has to find a way to sneak in. Many platforms in this area are already swampy and only accessible with the Shifty Suit, but those lasers will surely fry Hairy People.

The Factory

The Factory

The mechanical stage called The Factory can be seen on this screenshot. It is the heart of Spike productivity and the place where homes for all Spike settlers are being produced. Elvis hopes to find someone who will hook him up with a new house here, but since this is not the end of our story, you will have guessed correctly that he will not succeed.

Hairy Land

Hairy Land

Ah, the beautiful, spongy Hairy Land. I really like the look of all the Hairy assets and the vibe in these areas. Here, of course, Elvis has to wear his Shifty Suit to be able to use the platforms and all the rain surely does not bode well for his natural tan.

War

War

Elvis has reached the War stage of the game and finds himself in the cross hairs of a Spike war machine, since he is wearing his Shifty Suit. Nice catch on the screenshot with the midair position of Elvis’ jump cycle. A for style! On the left, we can see some destruction, as parts of the platforms have been ripped off.

The Machine

The Machine

I believe, this is the first public picture of the final stage inside The Machine. And that’s all I am going to say here, for obvious reasons. After all, we want you to play the game for yourselves!

That’s it for this walkthrough of On Rusty Trails. (Some secrets still uncovered). For all you patient people, who have stuck with me through the blog, here is the promised bonus picture. Stamm is visiting his grandpa at the moment, so he did the call from there. The room he works in also sports some fine home exercising equipment, so at one point he decided to make use of it. Little did he know, I snuck a screenshot. This is, what I have to put up with on a daily basis, folks. (Sorry for potato quality).

Enjoy your weekend!
