DevLog 7 -Snake Goodbye

 A new year has started and let’s imagine it will be a good one. As per the Chinese calendar, 2025 was the Year of the Snake (maybe not so great) and now we are entering into the Year of the Horse (possibly much better). If I had to make choice between a horse and a snake myself, I would select the horse with quite high confidence. Although I generally prefer cats… regrettably, there are no cat zodiac signs. In Paul’s world, things are a little different though: of course, there is a cat zodiac sign 🙂

Besides the New Year’s celebrations, quite a bit has happened with Paul as well.

SMOOTH

Last week was largely about gamecode polish, especially movement. After several surgeries on Paul’s movement system, he now navigates the underground world with improved smoothness. I also made essential adjustments to the camera so it always captures Paul and his actions perfectly. Everything flows really well now, which was confirmed by a second gameplay test. Very nice!

After all that coding, I can finally pick up the pen again and focus on visually shaping the world and its inhabitants. First sketches for additional NPCs are already done, and I’m really looking forward to putting them right in front of Paul. It’s shaping up to be a fun and colorful week.
