DevLog 5 - Growing Up

Hello everyone,

With all the busy Christmas activities, some additional progress has also been achieved on Paul. As this is a production diary, I decided to share several pictures that illustrate how Paul’s style has changed and developed over time - basically a brief look back at the past two years.

At first, the plan was to make a sort of dungeon crawler game that operates on turns. The graphics style and character details were not decided at all during that time; there existed only an quickly coded prototype with some placeholder assets. This rough, scribbly sketch then became the birth of Paul as a character. Here’s an early sketch of a level section… And here it is one development stage further: At that stage, things seemed still somewhat dull and too plain to me. Therefore, I included a bit of woodcut-style visuals in Paul’s world. This is how it appears now: Developing the style gives me lots of joy and I am pretty happy with how it looks now. I hope that you also appreciate the way Paul is moving forward.

That’s it from me for now. I wish you all a wonderful Christmas!
